🔍How to spot a two-striped grasshopper

  1. Two pale yellowish stripes running from behind the eyes along the top of the thorax onto the wings are characteristic.
  2. Olive-green to brown base color with variable mottling; adults have well-developed wings.
  3. Females noticeably larger and bulkier than males; look for ovipositor at rear of female.
  4. Short antennae (typical of Acrididae) and strong hind legs for jumping.

  1. Large, robust short-horned grasshopper with well-developed hind legs and wings extending beyond the abdomen in adults.
  2. Colour variable: olive green, brown or gray with mottling—matches surrounding vegetation.
  3. Strong jumpers; when disturbed often fly short distances then land in vegetation.
  4. Females larger with broader abdomen; look for soil egg pods in bare ground in late summer and autumn.
